Your Message As your constituent, I’m writing to bring to your attention a legacy that demands to be honoured—and an urgent need in our healthcare system that can no longer be ignored. That need is deeply tied to the recent and heart-breaking passing of Hannah Deacon, a mother whose courage and tireless fight changed the life of her son, Alfie. Hannah was a force of nature. Through sheer determination, she broke through legislative barriers in 2018 to make medical cannabis treatment available to Alfie, saving his life and setting a precedent that gave hope to countless others. None of this would have happened without her strength—or the cross-party support that stood with her. But Hannah’s work is not done. The British Paediatric Neurology Association recently reminded us that it is the relentless drive of parents like Hannah that propels research and access to innovative treatments for rare diseases forward. When the system fails, it’s families who push the boundaries. Hannah co-founded the Medcan Family Foundation with a clear mission: to change the future for children like Alfie diagnosed with rare and drug-resistant forms of epilepsy by ensuring that no family has to fight this hard again. It is not acceptable that 30% of all epilepsy cases remain drug-resistant—a figure that hasn’t changed in over 40 years. That is four decades of families waiting, children suffering, and lives put on hold. We now have a chance to change that. To truly honour Hannah’s legacy, we need MPs from all parties to step forward and help ensure access to new, personalised cannabinoid medicines through the NHS—for the 35,000 children who could benefit. Hannah’s vision can’t be allowed to stall. It’s time to finish what she started. I invite you to stand with us. Please join the Medcan Family Foundation and the families affected at the House of Lords, River Room, on Tuesday, 4th November 2025, from 18:00 to 20:00. This gathering will be a moment to honour Hannah’s life, reflect on her impact, and unite behind a future where no family faces this journey alone. I urge you—be a voice for these children in Parliament. The time for action is now. Yours sincerely,
